ITINERARY
Th
ree trips have been planned for the 2005 season , the first of which starts on the 2nd July. There are flights leaving Sydney, Brisbane & Cairns that day that will connect through to Lihir Island in New Ireland Province of PNG on the same day via Port Moresby, eliminating the need for a stopover in Port Moresby.The Cairns passengers will depart there at 7.00 am and arrive Port Moresby at 8.25am where they will be met and transferred to the Airways Hotel Pool Deck to relax and have lunch to await pick up for your 15.20 departure to Lihir.
Sydney passengers will depart at 7.30 am, pick up the Brisbane passengers at 10.00 am and arrive Port Moresby at 13.00 hrs, there you will be greeted and assisted to the Domestic Terminal (300 metres from the International) where you will join the Cairns anglers for departure.
The trip to Lihir is a 2 hour 15 min flight on a Dash 8 aircraft. Upon arrival at Lihir you will be met and transferred to the Lihir Social & Sports Club for refreshments and dinner while your luggage is being loaded on the “Emve Njoy”.
After dinner we will depart Lihir at 20.00 hrs for the 10.5 hour trip to Lyra Reef where you will fish for 5 (five ) days. Departure from Lyra Reef will be at 18.oo hrs on the 7th July for the trip back to Lihir.
The flight leaves Lihir at 6.15 am of the 8th July and arrives in Port Moresby at 8.25 am where you be met again and the Cairns passengers transferred straight to the International Terminal for a 9.25 departure. Brisbane and Sydney passengers will have time to sample the hospitality of the Airways Hotel Pool Deck to compare how much the fish have grown over a few cold ones & lunch while you await pick up for your 15.10 hrs departure. That will have you arriving Brisbane at 18.05 hrs and Sydney at 20.25 hrs. This itinerary will be repeated again on the 9th & 16th July.
WEATHER
As there is no sheltered anchorages at Lyra Reef it would be necessary for the safety of all to relocate the fishing to protected waters in the event of inclement weather. Other possible locations would be the Tangaand Tabar Islands all of which have all weather anchorages & relatively unfished waters.
WHAT TO TAKE
All boats will be equipped with safety gear, raincoats and sun cream however if you have special requirements then bring your own, the “Colt” & “Fillie” are both open boats and a good hat, long sleeves and long trousers are a must. Please do not forget the feet. Also note anglers will be rotated around the boats.
According to the few fortunate anglers from the Lihir Game Fishing Club that have fished Lyra, heavy tackle is definitely required. The boats will be equipped with 15, 25 & 37 kg boat rods, you are advised to bring your own rigs for casting, & jigging preferably with spare spools and a large assortment of poppers, jigs and minnows. Lures we find work well are Rapals CD18 in QF colour, Lively Lures “Blue Pillie Deep” & “Giant Trembler” in both the QF & Pillie colours, Halco’s “Laser Pro again in the QF , Green & Gold & Pillie colours. For casting both Raiders, Spayid’ & Bumper Bars work well and Yosurie along with Sure Catch
There will be no spirits or wine available on board, it is suggested you purchase these at “Duty Free”, the local brew “South Pacific Lager” will be available on board.
